Tuesday, July 20, 2010: Oklahoma Promoting Tribal Cultures: There are 39 federally-recognized tribes in Oklahoma. In 1994, the state legislature created the Native American Cultural and Educational Authority (NACEA), a state agency authorized to construct and operate the American Indian Cultural Center and Museum in Oklahoma City. Construction costs are over $160 million. However, over the next 20 years the total economic benefit to the state's economy from the center is estimated to be $2.6 billion. Why aren't more states investing in Native culture to attract visitors? Guests include Gena Timberman (Choctaw) Executive Director/NACEA. To participate, call 1-800-996-2848 |
